SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) a MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) sú základné technológie používané v priemyselnej automatizácii.
SCADA je systém, ktorý umožňuje operátorom monitorovať a riadiť priemyselné procesy z centrálneho miesta. Zbiera údaje v reálnom čase zo senzorov a zariadení, poskytuje grafické zobrazenie procesu. Operátori môžu analyzovať údaje, robiť informované rozhodnutia a zasahovať, keď je to potrebné. V tomto kontexte platí, že “SCADA sú očami a rukami operátorov”, pretože im umožňuje vidieť, čo sa deje v prevádzke a riadiť ju na diaľku.
MES je softvérový systém, ktorý spolupracuje s vrstvou SCADA na riadenie a optimalizáciu výrobného procesu. Zameriava sa na koordináciu, sledovanie a optimalizáciu výrobných aktivít v prevádzke. MES poskytuje údaje o výrobe (zákazke) v reálnom čase, pomáha s jej plánovaním a pridelením zdrojov, monitoruje výkon strojov a pracovníkov a zabezpečuje aj kontrolou kvality. Integrovaním s podnikovými ERP systémami ako SAP umožňuje MES efektívne a plynulé fungovanie výroby.
